This course provides guidance on how to view and assess various daylight metrics

The first two series of lessons will take you step by step through how to generate different images and run calculate different daylight metrics in the VE.

You will learn how to:

  • Set location, time and date, material properties, shading and adjacent buildings
  • Generate lux, Daylight Glare Probability (DGP) and daylight factor information
  • Test natural and electric lighting systems
  • Produce photo-realistic images
  • Produce plots of daylight levels, daylight factors and threshold areas
  • Compare against LEED, BREEAM and BB87 thresholds

The following lessons demonstrate:

  • Photosensor Control Systems & Building Energy Simulation
  • DF (Daylight Factor) images, numerics, etc.
  • Calculations & Visualizations for CBDM (Climate Based Daylight Modelling)
    • UDI (useful daylight illuminance)
    • sDA (Spatial daylight autonomy)
    • ASE (Annual sunlight exposure)
