Course Overview

This course provides a clear, step‑by‑step guide to achieving UK SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) Compliance using the IES Virtual Environment. It is designed for practitioners who are comfortable creating geometry in ModelIT and want to confidently complete non‑domestic regulatory submissions using the SBEM methodology.

You’ll learn how to prepare and configure a VE model for compliance by editing and assigning constructions, defining compliant building services and renewable systems, and applying these at either whole‑building or space level. The course explains how SBEM calculations are structured, clarifying the roles of Real, Notional, and Actual buildings and how compliance performance is assessed.

Through guided demonstrations and practical examples, you’ll run SBEM calculations, review results, and generate required outputs including BRUKL reports and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). Additional best‑practice guidance highlights common modelling issues and settings that support accurate, efficient, and repeatable UK SBEM submissions.
