TThis course provides guidance on how the geometry of the building and its integrated shading devices or neighbouring buildings or topography will impact on the solar shading of the building.

Within the VE, you can choose to apply this shading to the building simulation to evaluate the impact of solar gains on the building energy and loads and on occupant comfort, as an integral part of the design process.

The first series of lessons will take you step by step through how to generate different images and run shading calculations in the VE, with integrated tests and tasks to follow along.

You will learn how to:

  • Generate different types of shading and solar energy / solar exposure images
  • Run and evaluate solar shading calculations
  • Apply solar shading calculations to the dynamic simulation when it is run
  • View the simulation results to assess the impact of shading in more detail

The first series of lessons is certified for 1 CPD hour.

The following lessons demonstrate:

  • Different ways to model shading devices
  • Different profiles for controlling shading devices assigned as part of a glazed construction
  • Comparing simulation results, with and without shading devices

SunCast Training Course
